Hip hop music is not for gangsters

I hardly understand the fact that hip hop music is for gangsters. I think a gangster is a lawbreaker, someone who commits crime. Yes there are gangsters in hip hop music but it doesn`t mean that you can`t find gangsters in other genres, even in a gospel music, R&B music or any kind of music you can find gangsters. This is the kind of music that allows artists to speak out whatever they feel inside. In this kind of music you can get motivation from many hiphop musicians,I`m talking about the likes of T.I,Proverb,Prokid and many more. For instance there`s a song by Prokid which says ``ungapel`umoya san''(don`t give up dude). From that song you can get some motivation,it`s not like they are just talking about silly things or how to kill a person.Just because some of them smoke weed, wear straight caps and big trousers it doesn`t necessarily mean they are all gangsters, they have more valuable things to talk about especially artists like 2pac.

  1. I strongly agree with you zubenathi, some of them(hiphop artists) are encouraging,i would also like to make an example about Prokid's ungaphel'moya, this track is so encouraging especially to those who already gave up...ITS NOT ABOUT GANGSTARISM BUT ITS ABOUT TALENT AND CREATIVITY.

    1. Thanks mthokozisi bro,I always thought I`m the only one who realized that hiphop music is not just about gangsterism, but creativity. It doesn`t mean if you choose to do hiphop you will turn to being a gangster but if you know what you are doing it for,you will simply do it for that purpose.

  2. @zubenathi, i feel that hip hop is merely an expression of a wide range of personalities through words, i personaly like comparing listening to a hiphop soundtrack to watching a movie where you could expect anything to happen at any point of the movie from a person being shot, to a villan taking drugs, a couple having sexual relations etc. so I fail to understand why many people are quick to pick through and appose a verse or line from a hip hop track than they would similar scenes being depicted in a movie

    1. Yes Vongani dude,I think I really like the way you compare the two. Just to add on the sexual relations point of view let me compare R&B music with hip hop music.R&B music singers have never got criticisms before because people have a feeling that these are lover boys so they won`t do anything wrong, look at their music videos they are all about sexual relations but people do not get the feeling that this is not good for their children,so why do they criticise hiphop music, don`t they think that R&B music videos encourage sex of which will be detrimental for their children? that`s my question for now
